A two-day training workshop was held for the She Leads Network, focusing on ending violence against women and girls in South West communities in Nigeria. The workshop was organized by the Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC) and supported by the Ford Foundation. The program emphasizes that young women need to utilize their voices and capacities for the sake of this cause by advocating for women’s rights, urging their governments to pass laws that protect women and girls from Sexual Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), and effecting positive change within their families and networks. To achieve this, we must reshape our notions of leadership and eliminate barriers for women and girls to lead and participate in decision-making at all levels.
When girls tell you about the violence they have experienced in their lives, believe them. It is exceedingly rare for girls to fabricate false stories about sexual assaults and violence. You may be the first and only person she confides in—believe and support her decisions without being judgmental.
