Again, ROTDOW Partners Vitamin Angels, Train Community Health Volunteers On Multiple Micronutrients Supplement Administration

In its renewed effort to reduce child mortality in Ondo State, a leading Non Governmental Organization, Restoration Of The Dignity Of Womanhood, ROTDOW in partnership with Vitamin Angels organized a 2- day training session between Wednesday 2nd March and Thursday, 3rd March 2022 for Community and Missionary Volunteers on the administration of multiple Micronutrient Supplements in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The move is to empower the volunteers on best practices in the administration of multiple Micronutrients Supplements ( MMS), Vitamin A and Abendazole ahead of Maternal and Child Week celebration in Ondo State.

Addressing the participants, the CEO, ROTDOW, Mrs. Olabisi Omolona said her NGO in partnership with Vitamin Angels has been supplying vitamin supplements for use of children and pregnant women in Ondo State since 2017 stressing that the training is to further equip the volunteers with practical demonstration on how to administer the drugs.

Mrs. Omolona who also stressed the effectiveness of the supplements in helping children and pregnant women maintain healthy vision, functional immune system while aiding growth and development of babies in the womb, noted that stipulated intake of deworming impacts cognitive ability, as well as general health among others.

While urging the participants to take advantage of the training to properly equip themselves as they may be deployed by the government to assist other health workers during the Maternal and Child Week, Mrs. Omolona said the ultimate goal is for them to be able to penetrate hard to reach areas as community volunteers and help achieve the overall objective of improving the health of pregnant women and children in the state.

The event featured a technical session facilitated by Mrs. Toyin Adebayo from Vitamin Angels who also explored benefits of multiple Micronutrients Supplements to include prevention of anaemia, building of healthy system and reducing of low birth weight among others.

Mrs. Adebayo who also urged participants to always stress the need to visit ante natal clinic, said intake of multiple Micronutrient Supplements does not replace ante natal care just as she took time to explore the benefits of Vitamin A supplementation and Deworming (VAS+D).

The training also featured a one-on-one practical session on how to administer Vitamin A, Abendazole and Micro Nutrients Supplements as well as a question and answer session.

Some of the participants who spoke after the training while expressing readiness to go into the field and put to use their knowledge, thanked the organizers for prioritizing women and children health
