Restoration For The Dignity Of Womanhood (ROTDOW) led by the CEO, Mrs Olabisi Omolona today marked National Human Trafficking Awareness day at Ireakari Primary School, in Ireakari Community in Akure South Local Government.
The aim of the program is to raise awareness on the plight of human trafficking victims, promote and protect their rights.
The two trained Volunteers of Ondo State Task Force on Trafficking In Person – Mrs Damilola Adesoji-Paseda and Miss Adedoyin Adeyemi facilitated the program while Miss Adedoyin explored the concept of Trafficking to include sexual exploitation, force labour or services, slavery or practice similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs among others.
According to her, human trafficking can be traced to the level of poverty in the society, cultural beliefs, unemployment, ignorance of parents and more.
She further explained other types of human trafficking which include international trafficking; which is a means of crossing boarder from one country to another.
Some of the ways highlighted to prevent Human Trafficking include sensitisation in schools, awareness raising, encourage school to include human trafficking in the school curriculum.
Major highlights of the event was the inauguration of Anti Human trafficking Vanguard at Ireakari Primary School by Mrs. Omolona as well as the decoration of the school Headmistress as Human Trafficking Ambassador.
In her remarks, the Headmistress appreciated ROTDOW team for their supports towards the school while assuring that the school will advocate more on human trafficking to parents during PTA meeting and also encourage teachers to give their full support for the programme.
