VITAMIN A SUPPLEMENTATION

Written By: Dr Abiola Akann | Country Program Manager | Vitamin Angels, Abuja

Vitamin Angels are combating childhood malnutrition from conception to age five in order to reduce preventable illness, blindness and death, and create a healthier world. The organization improves child and maternal health by distributing critically needed vitamins, nutrition education, and deworming to at-risk populations in hard to reach locations spanning 74 countries. In 2017, Vitamin Angels partnered with over 1,200 NGOs globally to reach more than 61 million mothers and children.

Vitamin Angels make in-kind grants to qualified NGOs who are willing to distribute the donated supplements and deworming tablets through their existing fixed health post and community-based outreach programs to beneficiaries who reside in hard to reach communities and are at risk for vitamin A deficiency (VAS) or undernutrition. Vitamin Angels’ approach complements the efforts of the Government of Nigeria and supports the international community in achieving Sustainable Development Goals 1, 2, 3 and 17.

Vitamin Angels are working in Nigeria to complement government services through qualified Field Partners to provide technical services as well as donate:

  • Vitamin A and/or Albendazole to 10.5 million children under 5 years of age.
  • Multivitamins (pre-natal) to over 10,000 pregnant women across the country.
  • About 6 million doses of Albendazole to selected states through existing field partners for use during Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) week campaigns.

Join us in reducing preventable diseases which are a leading cause of death, and giving Nigerian beneficiaries the opportunity to achieve their full potential, giving them life.
